Situated in the core urban renewal area in Hexi District, Tianjin, the project enjoys sweeping views of the surrounding parkland and Haihe River, while seamlessly connecting with the city’s central axis and two metro lines—unfolding an ecological tapestry where river and park landscape interweave. By revitalizing heritage sanatorium buildings, the design fosters a dialogue between history and modernity, redefining the five-kilometer golden shoreline of the upper Haihe River as the city’s new waterfront identity.
Inspired by the Ming dynasty painting Jade Cave Fairyland and the cultural essence of the Haihe River, the design introduces a pioneering threefold spatial sequence, where a 150-meter central park and a cascading green island form the main landscape axis, unfolding a poetic journey of “Seeking Water – Discovering Jade – Secluding in the Forest.” The inner courtyard, articulated through screens, water features, and sculptural greenery, creates a hotel-style arrival experience. Meanwhile, the commercial street blurs the boundary between indoors and outdoors, refreshing the 100-meter urban frontage with refined, everyday vibrancy.
Functionally, the project redefines homecoming experience through a threefold ceremonial sequence: an entrance lobby embodying a sense of ritual, a “community living room” highlighting spatial narratives, and a green island for nature integration. Shared green spaces, healing gardens, and a children’s playground compose inclusive lifestyle scenes for all ages, catering to elite residents in pursuit of refined, tranquil living.
As China’s first urban renewal project certified by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development with the “Green Eco-District Design Label,” the project integrates eight dimensions of sustainability—from sponge city infrastructure to smart community systems—and has been recognized as Tianjin’s first nationally certified development with the “Quiet Residential Building Design Label.”
Driven by a holistic “production–academia-research–application–living” model for urban renewal, the project establishes a dynamic synergy between innovative office environments and a culturally enriched residential community. It sets a new paradigm for waterfront living along the Haihe River, offering a globally relevant exemplar of urban renewal rooted in Eastern aesthetics.
