Drawing from the Baiyun Mountain Range as its source, the design translates the expansive spirit of "watching clouds rise" into a silent prologue for the space. Stripping away redundancy, it utilizes a modern Nanyang-Haipai framework to elegantly uphold the profound cultural heritage of the Lingnan-Cantonese tradition.
The screen facades trace their origins to Lingnan’s Manchu Windows, deconstructing traditional patterns into semi-circular lines. As light and shadow dance across them, the fluid essence of clouds is preserved, achieving a profound harmony between Oriental aesthetics and modern spatial order.
Upon entering the Prologue Hall, Lingnan lacquer takes the form of "mountain bones," while Xiangyun Silk (Gambiered Canton Gauze) weaves the texture—reminiscent of evening mist swirling around peaks. It is a poetic dialogue between the soul of the mountain and the spirit of the weave. Looking upward, a floating cloud installation breaks the visual tension, softening the rigidity of the structural frame. Here, flowing rhythms converge to create a gateway of reclusion, stripped of urban clamor.
"Upward to the Clouds" serves as a metaphor for the pulse of life, the passage of time, and the surge of civilization. The installation aims to create an artistic sanctuary within the courtyard where one can "hear" the clouds, "see" time, and "touch" culture.
Standing beneath the dome, the "breath" of the clouds becomes audible. The pulse of life, the shimmering light of time, and the undercurrents of civilization are condensed into a powerful spatial tension. This is not merely an artistic reshaping of "Living toward the Clouds," but a silent resonance of vast time and space.
As clouds unfurl and settle into poetry, the space sheds its physical boundaries to become an anchor for inner exploration. Amidst the depths of prosperity, it leaves a silent void—a retreat into an expansive wilderness of the soul.
