[Location and Heritage: A Dialogue Through Time and Space]
Situated in Taipei’s Datong District—a historic cultural enclave where the old and the new coexist—this project breathes a new soul into Shanghai Kitchen, a classic brand with half a century of heritage. Upon taking the helm, the third-generation management team upheld the family's meticulous craftsmanship while reinterpreting the aesthetic depth of Haipai (Shanghainese) cuisine through an innovative lens.
[Design Concept: Flavor within Fragrance, Poetry within Colors]
The design is inspired by the original work Ode to Ten Colors, where "ten colors represent ten realms," aligning poetry and painting with their respective spatial counterparts. It integrates the pinnacle of Chinese culinary aesthetics—the harmony of "Color, Aroma, and Taste"—and translates it into a spatial language. Centered on the philosophy of "Fragrance within Flavor, Poetry within Color," the project utilizes ten rich, layered tones to sketch a living scroll of "Modern Oriental" lifestyle.
Ode to Ten Colors
By the red hearth, night rain softly seethes;
Gold-lit pages greet the morning star.
Orange stones attend the murmuring spring;
Violet mist entwines the crane afar.
Blue fountains drift with oars of spring;
Green hills dissolve into the painted screen.
Jade waters rock the floating duckweed light;
A bronze mirror bathes the silent court serene.
Silver hooks descend at dusk to fish;
Golden winds bring ripe rice on their wing.
[Material & Details: Modern Structures with Nostalgic Details]
The space encompasses both open seating and private dining suites. The color palette is defined by grounded deep chestnut, elegant cyan-teal, and luxurious antique bronze gold, accented by serene white walls and brickwork. Wooden lattice windows, water-dyed teal timber, and bronze arched portals seamlessly stitch vintage details into the modern architectural structure.
[Conclusion:A New Life for Old Dreams]
Here, guests do not merely savor the seamless fusion of classic and innovative cuisine. Amidst the fast-paced modern metropolis, they are invited to immerse themselves in the emotional resonance of "old dreams reborn, with flavors steeped in poetry and color."
